Mini-Super

About MINI-SUPER:

Growing up around amateur farmers and fresh produce, Matt Miner was learning about fresh veggies from an early age and never stopped. After working through a variety of impactful positions of specialty retail grocery for many years, he found himself with the knowledge, the ability and a great opportunity, (and a nudge from a friend) to become what would be the fresh grocer permanent addition to the North Market. MINI-SUPER prides itself on fresh quality produce and other grab and go items (including drinks and CBD items). Much of the produce is delivered from local farmers. Yoder’s Farm from Hillsboro, OH delivers at least once a week and is also a part of MINI-SUPER’s weekly veggie subscription (ask Matt about the incredible weekly veggie subscription!). This generous box of fresh seasonal produce is sure to complete any family’s weekly dinners while also supporting local farmers. Just visit Mini-Super in person or email minisuperno.ma@gmail.com to sign up.

How Did The Idea Come About?

Matt had been in the natural food and produce industry for over 20 years working with various Specialty Health Food Grocery Stores. During that time he had networked with, and met many people, one of them being Rick Wolfe (the CEO of North Market). Matt’s friend Jen who was already a merchant suggested that Matt approach Rick about opening MINI-SUPER as the North Market desperately needed a merchant exactly like Matt. This seemed like a no brainer for Matt as his loves included the fresh produce knowledge and talking with and sharing that knowledge with everyone.

What’s Your Favorite Thing About Being a Part of The North Market?

This great community that Matt gets to be a part of gives him the sense of being home as it is very similar to what he grew up with and done in the past. Feeling like a breath of fresh air, MINI-SUPER has simplified Matt’s life immensely. Having worked with most other merchants in some way, it truly feels like a community helping each other. Being a city person now, the North Market vibe and diversity also means that Matt gets to meet and talk to people from all over the world. The proximity to the Convention Center makes the entire area feel like the center of the city and a true representation of what Columbus is.

What are MUST HAVES in the store?

  1. Mango’s (these are Matt’s favorite by far)
  2. Strawberries when they are in season (Yoder’s strawberries are the best!)
  3. Matt’s Guacamole (he makes this himself and prides himself on it)
  4. Weekly Veggie Subscription (amazing fresh season produce from Yoder’s Farm)

About MINI-SUPER and Matt Miner:

Matt started out in the natural food industry in 1998 with Northwest Natural Foods, working with them until they were bought out by Wild Outs. He transitioned to a career path with Whole Foods holding multiple positions for the next several years. Accounting, receiving, produce, displays, purchasing, and merchandising are just a few things Matt gained a vast knowledge of while with Whole Foods. He wanted to move up and in 2009 relocated to Washington D.C. for different options and growth opportunities. Matt realized it was not cost effective to stay in D.C. and moved back to Columbus in 2014 still with Whole Foods. Shortly after, Amazon bought Whole Foods and things changed. Matt found himself at the turning point that would become a staple at the North Market allowing him to breathe, slow down, and enjoy the community that has and continues to support him. Next time you visit the North Market, don’t forget about the convenience store modeled after corner stores in Central America called “MINI-SUPER’s”
