Momo Ghar
About Momo Ghar:
When she visited Columbus and the North Market in 2011, Phuntso Lama knew then she wanted to become a merchant. Fast forward 6 years and 2 locations later, Momo Ghar opened in 2017 and has brought local and national fame to Momo’s! This “dumpling house” (the meaning of Momo Ghar) serves a perfect storm of Nepali and Tibetan flavors packed in mouthwatering dumplings. With everything made fresh in house, you’ll be able to taste the unique different flavor profiles in the variety of Momo’s they offer!
How Did The Idea Come About?
Her husband and a friend brought her to the North Market on that visit and when upstairs looking down on the merchants, Phuntso recalls getting goosebumps and falling in love and knew she wanted to be here doing something. When she moved here in 2013 she had many ideas for what she could do but while shopping at Saraga international market, Phuntso and husband Pramod noticed an open manageable space that could work for Momo Ghar avoiding brick and mortar overhead. An inquiry brought them back the next day to speak with the owner and at this time, they ended up signing a lease. The couple went on a skiing vacation the next day and told each other they would not talk about this new venture until they got back.
What’s Your Favorite Thing About Being a Part of The North Market?
Phuntso and Promad love being a part of the North Market. With the community and city being represented so well, the North Market allows them to be a part of Columbus and its history. It is tremendous and a great market to be in. It has allowed them to reach more of Columbus while the city has helped Momo’s become known across the country. It has truly come full circle from that first moment looking down getting goosebumps, to now being a nationally known destination for the best momo’s around!

Story of Momo Ghar and Phuntso & Pramod
Saraga was just the tip of the iceberg for Momo Ghar. Very soon after they opened, someone brought Momo Ghar to the attention of Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. They were already recognized throughout Columbus and were now about to be nationally televised on one of the most well known food shows around. Pramod jokes about not returning the calls initially because they don’t watch TV and didn’t know who or what the show was about. After some quick research, obviously they called the show back. At this point they had tried a couple times to get into the North Market without luck and started looking into opening a brick and mortar location. About a year or so after opening in Saraga, Rick reached out to them about becoming a merchant at the North Market and they opened the current location there in 2017. Due to the success and support, they decided to close the Saraga location in 2021 and focus solely on the North Market. This allowed them to bring these world famous Momo’s to the downtown community and a much larger audience due to the convention center and its visitors. Next time you’re at the North Market, make sure to go taste what has become a world famous flavor phenomenon!
