North Market New Merchant Announcement: Hoyo’s Kitchen
March 14, 2019 – Columbus, Ohio North Market is pleased to announce the addition of Hoyo’s Kitchen, a fast casual Somali restaurant. Since 1876, North Market has strived to introduce shoppers to the ‘best-in-class’ Columbus has to offer. In recent years, North Market has redefined what it means to be inclusive, inviting small business owners of various backgrounds and nationalities to showcase what makes their culinary experience unique. Hoyo’s Kitchen (Hoyo translates to Mother in Somali) will bring authentic Somali cuisine to the merchant mix with the opening of their second location. Along with his family, Abdilahi “A.B.” Hassan opened the first Hoyo’s location in 2014 on Columbus’s North Side. Their aim is to introduce guests to Somali food and ultimately reach a wider audience. By combining traditional food with the modern fast-casual delivery method, A.B. and his family encourage guests to try their family recipes that taste both exotic and familiar at the same time. The hope is that the general public will increase their comfort level with African cuisine overall. “The addition of Hoyo’s Kitchen to the historic North Market is much bigger than simply a story about food. The Somali community is a vital part of the fabric of Columbus and now the Somali cultural experience is moving from the edges of our community to find a home in the heart of our city,” said North Market Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe. “I look forward to Central Ohio residents and our visitors from all over the world meeting A.B., his family, and experiencing their exquisite handmade recipes. We welcome Hoyo’s Kitchen to our market family.” A.B. Hassan and Mohamed Hassan “It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of the North Market family. North Market is more than just a neighborhood market, it’s an institution and a Columbus staple,” said A.B. Hassan. “It provides a greater level of inclusivity and increased representation of all cultures that make Central Ohio a special place to live and work. It’s truly humbling to be given the opportunity to showcase Somali cuisine. It’s our belief that Hoyo’s Kitchen can and will play an integral part in bringing a whole new dynamic to a fast growing and diverse food scene.” Hoyo’s Kitchen is slated to begin construction at the vacant stall next to Hubert’s Polish Kitchen and across from Little Eater in the coming weeks. Hoyo’s expects to launch at North Market this Spring. Hoyo’s Kitchen 614-899-8800 @hoyoskitchen
